Colposcopy :
Colposcopy is used to examine the cervix. It is a diagnostic procedure that allows a provider to check the cervix and vagina in order to identify any abnormal cells or tissue changes in the vagina. Colposcopy helps in the diagnosis of various conditions such as genital warts, cervicitis, precancerous changes in the vagina, vulva, cervix, and non cancerous growths such as polyps. In the procedure of colposcopy, a colposcope (magnifying lens) is placed at the opening of the vagina and examines the tissues inside to diagnose the condition. Colposcopy is indicated when there are abnormal pap test results or abnormal pelvic examination results, as well as a positive HPV test. The advantages of colposcopy are that it allows a detailed view of the cervix, which helps in the detection of cancer in its early stages and provides timely management of cancerous and non cancerous conditions.
