Cervical Cerclage :
Cervical cerclage is a way where the cervix is closed during pregnancy to prevent premature birth due to a weakened cervix. It is done to keep the fetus safe inside the uterus until it's time to give birth. Reasons for cervical cerclage include the incompetent cervix, past miscarriages from an abnormally shaped uterus and past miscarriages during the second trimester, having a short cervix, a history of cone biopsy of the cervix when the cervix starts to open during the second trimester with painless dilation of the cervix. Risks of cervical cerclage include infection, damage to the cervix, bleeding, premature rupture of membranes, preterm labor, cervical stenosis, scar tissue on the cervix, and tearing of the cervix while sutures are still intact. Before the procedure few steps needed to take are reviewing the medical history, ultrasound, screening for infection and antibiotics.
