Carotid Angiogram :
A carotid angiogram is that process in which the carotid arteries are visualized in cath lab under fluro. It has gradually emerged as a procedure applied whenever the onset of carotid artery disease is supposed to provoke a stroke. A catheter is introduced into a femoral route and moved into the carotid arteries. Contrast dye is then injected that makes possible to depict the arteries on the cathlab screen under fluro. In this manner the doctor will check to see if there is any impediment or even narrowing of the vessels. If so, then it would prompt for angioplasty or surgery. It is the carotid angiogram that would help doctors make a decision on the kind of treatment and avoid future strokes through proper visual illustration of blood flow in the carotid arteries. An interventional cardiologist or a interventional radiologist may perform the carotid angiogram. Patients presenting with recurrent syncope , unexplained giddiness are subjected to carotid angiogram to rule out stenosis .Intervention followed by carotid angiogramCarotid angioplasty carries some amount of risks like hemiplegia ,stroke and occassionally death too.
