Candidiasis :
The causes of candidiasis are different but common risk factors like antibiotics usage with the consequence of disturbing normal flora, an immune-compromised state due to instances like diabetes, HIV, and cancer, conditions of pregnancy, hormonal conditions changes, and some medical conditions increase the risk of infections. The symptoms of infection depend upon the site of infection: for instance, thrush presents with sore throat and pain on swallowing if in the oral cavity, whereas in vaginal fungal infection, it would present with abnormal discharge and itching and burning.
Mainstay of treatment of candidiasis is usually antifungal drugs. These are topical antifungal creams/ointments or systemic treatments which can be given intravenously or orally. It is best to seek the input of a healthcare provider to ensure proper diagnosis and administration of treatment, especially for invasive candidiasis, as this may be a life threatening infection.
