Blood In Stools :
Blood in stools, also known as rectal bleeding, occurs due to a variety of conditions and appears as bright red or tarry black colored stool. The color of stool determines the site of bleeding, as bright red blood in stool indicates that the bleeding is in the colon, rectum, or anus. Bleeding in the small intestine or higher up in the colon is understood by seeing dark red or maroon blood in the stool and black stool, which indicates that the bleeding is in the stomach, which might be due to a bleeding stomach ulcer. The causative factors of blood in stools are hemorrhoids or piles, anal fissures, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, infectious colitis, sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis, peptic ulcer disease, colon polyps and colorectal cancer. The treatment plan to manage this condition involves making dietary changes, using medications (for IBD) and surgical treatments like polyp removal, etc., to treat the underlying cause.
