Cervical Disc Herniation :
In common language, cervical disc herniation is also known as slip disc, where the gel between the spine pushes out. This is mostly seen in elderly patients or even in patients who have a cervical injury. Symptoms include severe neck pain radiating to the upper limb, weakness of the upper limb, stiffness of the neck, shoulder pain, headaches, dizziness, fatigue, and in some cases, even it would be difficult for a patient to hold an object. Diagnosis is made by a physical examination, basic blood investigations, and imaging studies like X-ray, CT, and MRI. Treatment includes nonsurgical and surgical methods. Nonsurgical methods include the administration of painkillers, a healthy lifestyle, regular neck exercises, steroids, and regular physiotherapy, which may include traction and massage therapy. Surgical options include cervical discectomy. The application of cold packs might also be suggested in some cases as they can reduce the swelling and relieve the pain.
