Alopecia :
Alopecia or hair loss is a medical condition in which the hairfall is higher than normal which leads to hair thinning and eventually causing partial or complete baldness. Alopecia can be of different types depending on the underlying cause and the area effected ie,. alopecia areata causes patchy hair loss, alopecia universalis which causes complete hair loss on the body, male or female pattern hair alopecia or hairloss, alopecia totalis(total loss of hair on the scalp), telogen effluvium (excessive shedding of hair). The risk factors for alopecia includes genetics, stress, hormonal fluctuations, certain medications like antidepressants, chemotherapy drugs and nutrient deficiencies. A consultation with a dermatologist or trichologist is necessary to diagnose the underlying cause and treat it, which may include medications, topical solutions, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, good nutrition and hair transplantation if necessary.
