Esophagus Cancer :
Esophageal cancer refers to the growth of the cells in the esophagus, which helps move the food from the throat to the stomach. Types of esophageal cancer include adenocarcinoma, which affects the lower part of the esophagus, and squamous cell carcinoma, which affects the upper and middle parts of the esophagus. It is usually caused by smokeless tobacco, alcohol use, being overweight, heart burns, Barret's esophagus, chronic acid reflux, human papillomavirus, and occupational exposure. Symptoms may include pain in the throat, vomiting, coughing up blood, hoarseness, heartburn, chronic cough, and weight loss which occurs unintentionally. Diagnosis is made by barium swallow, esophagogastroduodenoscopy, computed tomography scan, esophageal endoscopic ultrasound, and biopsy. Treatment options include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, endoscopic submucosal dissection, endoscopic mucosal resection, photodynamic therapy, endoscopic laser therapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy.
