Tubectomy :

Tubal ligation or tubectomy is a surgical procedure to permanently block or cut the fallopian tubes (the channel through which the embryo passes after fertilization in order to enter the uterus for pregnancy) to prevent the pregnancy. It is usually done in women who have the desire for permanent contraception, completed family planning and may be done in woman with health concerns like high risk pregnancies ie., serious health conditions that occur to the woman if she gets pregnant that may danger her life. It is an elective procedure. The procedure can be done immediately after delivery known as postpartum tubal ligation or more than 6 weeks known as interval tubal ligation. It can be open or laparoscopic surgery.

Laparoscopic sterilization can be laparoscopic tubal ligation, bipolar coagulation, salpingectomy, clip application, ring application, electrocoagulation etc. Most of the laparoscopic tubal ligation are outpatient surgeries and do not require hospitalization overnight. Patients can get back to perform daily activities 1-2 days after surgery. It is conducted by a trained obstetrician and gynaecologist after necessary investigation are done.
