Tubectomy :
Tubectomy is a surgical method of tying the fallopian tubes to achieve permanent birth control. Tubectomy is performed using various techniques such as laparotomy, mini- laparotomy tubal ligation (mini- lap) and laparoscopic tubal ligation. Tubectomy involves cutting, blocking and sealing off the fallopian tubes which prevents the eggs from being fertilized by the sperm and thus prevents pregnancy. The common precautions to be taken after tubal ligation include limiting alcohol consumption for 24 hours after the procedure, avoiding lifting heavy objects for at least one or two weeks, taking a warm shower and using a heating pad or walking. The side effects that are experienced after tubectomy include shoulder pain, bloating, pain in the abdomen, tiredness, nausea, sore throat and dizziness. Tubectomy is a highly effective, convenient procedure and a non hormonal form of birth control, which also reduces the risk of cancer.
