Spondylosis :
Spondylosis is also called cervical spondylosis due to the abnormal wearing of bones and cartilage of the neck. In most cases, symptoms are not seen. But when the nerves in the spinal cord are compressed, it can lead to severe radiating pain from the neck to the hands and back, tingling sensation, numbness, weakness in the hands and arms, lack of coordination and in severe cases, it results in lack of bladder control and bowel control. The causes of spondylosis can be herniated discs, stiff ligaments, dehydrated discs, and bone spurs. Spondylosis is diagnosed through physical examination, imaging tests such as X-ray, CT myelography scan, MRI scan, and nerve function tests such as nerve conduction study and electromyography. Spondylosis treatment is dependent on the severity of the condition such as medications to relieve the pain, physiotherapy, stretching and strengthening exercises, neck traction, cold packs, heat packs, and surgery is recommended when there is loss of movement.
