Spondylosis :

Spondylosis is a degenerative condition in which there is wear and tear of different parts of the spine like intervertebral discs, facet joints and vertebral bodies often seen in elderly people. Spondylosis can of different types depending on the location like cervical spondylosis(most common) which effects the neck causing pain and stiffness, thoracic spondylosis, lumbar spondylosis and multilevel spondylosis. The exact cause of spondylosis is unknown but the risk factors include old age, obesity, smoking, poor posture, sedentary lifestyle, trauma, lack of physical exercise and repetitive strain in certain occupations like desk jobs, tailors, sitting for long hours etc. The person effected with spondylosis experiences neck pain often radiating to shoulder and hands, lower back pain,headache, limited mobility and headache etc. Prompt diagnosis and management is necessary which may include conservative management like medication for treating pain, physiotherapy , heat compress, exercise and surgical intervention if necessary.
