These are the cancers that arise from the skin. It is the most common form of cancer diagnosed in humans and there are 3 main types of cancers ie,. BCC( basal cell carcenoma, most common type of skin cancer) ,SCC( squamous cell carcenoma), Melanoma. Various risk factors of skin cancers include genetic preponderance, exposure to UV light , chronic arsenic exposure, therapeutic radiation, basal cell nevus syndrome, melanocytic nevus, chronic cutaneous ulcers, HPV infection ,smoking , pale skin etc,. Diagnosis can be made by dermatoscopy and or biopsy of the affected area and its histopathological examination. Sunscreen and wearing protective clothing is an effective method to prevent melanoma and SCC . Treatment depends on the type and stage of cancer and may be surgical excision, topical chemotherapy, radiation therapy etc.
