Ringworm :

Ringworm is a highly infectious disease because the causative fungi are the type called dermatophytes. The infection flourishes in warm, moist conditions. It can spread like through direct contact with an infected individual or animal and indirect by contamination of surfaces such as towels, clothing, or shower floors. Ringworm is progressive with typical red, circular itchy lesions of the skin having raised, scaly borders. Occasionally, this condition may take on a crusty or blistering form sometimes hair loss in affected scalp areas is also seen. The standard antifungal drugs prescribed for ringworm are available only by prescription as oral medications that must be continued for weeks or even months. More serious cases or when acquired on the scalp or nails may require prescription oral antifungal drugs . Proper hygiene which includes cleanliness, drying the affected area and not sharing personal items will also curb the infection. Good cleaning of the surrounding environment will also decrease the opportunity of re-infection.
