Phimosis :
Phimosis is characterised by a congenital or acquired constriction of fore skin that prevents its retraction over its glans penis. It is a condition seen in boys most commonly. Symptoms of phimosis are redness , difficulty in urinating ,tenderness alongside purulent discharge , inability to retact the foreskin. Risk factors for phimosis include diabetes mellitus , poor hygiene and young age. First line of treatment would be treating phimosis with application of steroid cream for 4- 6 weeks , If there is no response to steroid therapy , circumcision is advised with broad spectrum antibiotics . Circumcision is avoided in children under general anaesthesia to prevent anaesthesia related risks. Complication for phimosis include urinary tract infection and lower urinary tract obstruction.
