Pelvic Inflammatory Disease :
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease is the medical term for an infection in the reproductive system of a female. The infection involves the spread of bacteria from the vagina to the womb, fallopian tubes or ovaries. Such infections tend to be sexually transmitted in nature.
A female affected by Pelvic Inflammatory Disease may experience pain during sexual intercourse, irregular periods and an unusual discharge from the vagina. Other possible symptoms include pain in the pelvic region, vomiting, nausea and a burning sensation when urinating. The diagnosis of PID begins with a gynaecologist performing a pelvic exam. The doctor may then order tests such as a urine test and a blood test to confirm the diagnosis. PID is treated with antibiotic medications that are taken orally.
