Osteoporosis :
When the bones become weak and their density reduces when compared to the normal bone, it is called osteoporosis. Patients with this lower bone density are prone to fractures, even with slight falls or trauma. Most commonly, hip bones, wrist bones, lower extremities, and spine bones are affected by osteoporosis. Some of the causes for developing osteoporosis include some underlying diseases like autoimmune diseases and gastrointestinal diseases. Even some medications like diuretics and anticoagulants might also be the cause. Diagnosis is determined through physical examination, X-ray, and bone density test. Symptoms of patients with osteoporosis include loss of weight, severe backache, shortness of breath, and fatigue. Women are prone to developing osteoporosis due to a lack of proper nutrition, which includes calcium and vitamin D. Treatment includes administration of vitamins and mineral supplements. Regular exercise, which can increase the strength of bones, might also be suggested. Hormonal therapy might also be suggested in a few patients.
