Leukoplakia :
Leukoplakia is a condition characterized by painless white or gray patches inside the mouth. Leukoplakia is of two types such as homogenous leukoplakia and non homogenous leukoplakia. There are also sub types in leukoplakia which are proliferative verrucous leukoplakia and oral hairy leukoplakia. The symptoms of leukoplakia are patches seen in the tongue, gums, and inside of cheeks that do not go away, patches that look flat, and in white, gray or as white with tiny red dots. Leukoplakia occurs due to genetic changes and due to dentures that do not fit well. People who smoke or chew tobacco and are into substance abuse and those with weakened immune system, Epstein virus-affected ones and HIV-affected people are highly prone to this disease. Leukoplakia is treated by using lase to remove the patches, light-activated cancer drugs, using cryotherapy, and electrocauterization.
