Laminectomy :
When there is severe back pain or neck pain that disturbs normal daily activities, it may require surgical treatment. Laminectomy is the appropriate surgery in such cases as a neurosurgeon will remove the part or complete vertebral bone called lamina. This surgery helps relieve pressure on the nerves that are causing pain, tingling, and numbness in the arms, back, neck, and legs. Laminectomy is indicated in case of bone fracture, herniated disk, arthritis, bone spurs, spinal stenosis, degenerative conditions, spinal tumors, and abscesses. Before planning for the surgery, there are a few imaging tests to be done such as an MRI scan, X-ray, and a myelogram. There are some risks associated with laminectomy, such as infection, bleeding, blood clots in the legs, etc. There are four types of laminectomy: cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacral.
