ITP :
ITP refers to Immune thrombocytopenia, an autoimmune disorder and a blood disorder that keeps human blood from clotting. ITP is categorized by primary ITP, which attacks the platelets, and secondary ITP, which occurs due to underlying conditions such as blood cancers or autoimmune disorders. The significant signs of ITP include petechiae, purpura, bruises, bleeding gums, blood in stool, blood in urine, heavy menstrual periods, heavy nosebleeds, hematoma and fatigue. Complete blood count and peripheral blood smear are the diagnostic tests that are helpful in evaluating for ITP. The treatment modalities to manage ITP include medications, corticosteroids, immunoglobulin, or thrombopoietin receptor agonists, and immunosuppressants, treating underlying infection, having a platelet transfusion, and surgical procedures to remove the spleen. The potential complications of ITP, if left untreated, include severe bleeding, gastrointestinal or urinary bleeding (blood in vomit, stool or urine), heavy menstrual bleeding and uncontrolled bleeding even with pressure.
