Head Lice :

Head lice is the infection of the scalp with head louse (Pediculus humanus capitis) are small parasitic insects that feed on the blood from the scalp and live on human hair. It is commonly seen in school going children . it can occur due to direct head to head contact with a person that was infested, sharing personal items like combs, brushes, towels, pillows, poor hygeine and indirect contact through shared spaces like schools, camps, public transportation etc. Signs and symptoms include itching, irritation, redness on the scalp, small, lice(moving insects) or eggs (nits) in hair and excessive scratching may lead to skin irritation and infection. Management is by medicated shampoos or creams that includes OTC or prescription products containing permethrin, pyrethrin, or ivermectin and use a fine toothed comb to remove lice and nits on wet hair for easy removal.
