Endometrial Polyp :
An endometrial polyp is also known as a uterine polyp, where a small growth is formed in the inner lining of the endometrium. They may be round in shape and may vary in size from one patient to another. Women with obesity, having an underlying disease like hypertension, uncontrolled sugars, and who have undergone hormonal replacement therapy are more prone to develop endometrial polyps. Patients with endometrial polyps may present with symptoms that include bleeding after intercourse, spotting, and irregular menstrual cycle. Diagnosis is made by a careful physical examination and certain investigations like transvaginal ultrasound, sonohysterography, hysteroscopy, curettage, and biopsy. Treatment includes the administration of medication, which includes hormonal therapy, and removal of the polyp, which is also known as polypectomy. In most cases, the polyp is noncancerous, if it is cancerous, a hysterectomy also needs to be performed. Regular health checkups are the only way to detect the polyps at an early stage and to get treated.
