Dry skin :
Dry skin or xeroderma is scaly or flaky skin that lacks moisture. It makes the skin feel rough and may or may not cause itching. If the skin becomes severely dry, it can crack and start bleeding. Dryness of the skin can be triggered by exposure to an irritant, such as pollution, cosmetics, or detergents. This is called contact dermatitis. Xeroderma may also be caused by diseases like eczema. A dermatologist can diagnose dry skin by its appearance. The doctor may order a blood test, allergy test, or a skin biopsy to rule out other problems. Long hours of outdoor work, allergies, and cold climates increase the risk of dry skin. Though the condition is harmless, it can be irritating and requires good self-care practices to manage. In most cases, the condition is managed using the right moisturizer. A doctor may prescribe steroids in severe cases.
