Dry eye can occur along with other conditions like diabetes, blepharitis, Sjogren's syndrome, and thyroid eye disease. Dry eye can occur due to a lack of production of tears or the quick evaporation of tears. There are symptoms that will be noticed with dry eyes, such as sensitivity to light, eye discharge, burning sensation in the eye, watery eyes, and tears running down the face. Dry eyes can be detected with medical history and eye examination, and other tests will include the Schirmer's test, the tear breakup time test, and the slit lamp examination. The treatment for dry eyes will involve treating the eyes with artificial tears, ointments, topical cyclosporine, eye drops, and procedures like thermal pulsation therapy and intense pulsed light therapy.
