Cystoscopy
A cystoscopy is done for several reasons , The most common reason for performing a cystoscopy is when there is blood in the urine which is visible with our naked eye , blood found in urine analysis , to asses the size of prostate in men , to asses the size of urethra in women ,to rule out bladder cancer, and a bladder biopsy. Before proceeding to cystoscopy patient should not have any urinary tract symptoms like increased frequency of urination and abdominal pain. Certain medications like blood thinners should also be stopped on the day of cystoscopy as it might increase the bleeding after the procedure. The procedure take15 - 20 min and it is a day care procedure. Most common complaint after procedure would be difficulty in passing urine , but it will last only for a couple of times and resolve on its own. Risks of cystoscopy are infection , injury to the bladder which is very rare.
