Bronchitis is a condition that develops when there is an inflammation in the airways usually after a viral infection, leading to swelling and narrowing of the airways and resulting in respiratory problems. In children, the smaller airways are more commonly affected.
According to pediatric bronchitis specialists in Indore, a toddler can get bronchitis after a regular cold or upper respiratory tract viral infection. Other causes can include exposure to cigarette smoke, fumes, dust, allergens, and other pollutants.
Pneumonia affects the air sacs in the lungs where gaseous exchange takes place, whereas in bronchitis the airways that carry air to and from the lungs are affected.
The bronchitis symptoms in children include cough with phlegm, fever, tiredness, loss of appetite, runny nose, nasal congestion, chest discomfort, vomiting and gagging, and body pains.
The symptoms of bronchitis can last between 1-2 weeks. Even after other symptoms are gone, the cough may persist for an additional week or two.
As per the doctors for bronchitis treatment in children, In most cases it is due to viral infections and are treated conservatively with cough suppressants and anti-inflammatory agents, plenty of rest, and fluids, and if a bacterial infection is present antibiotics are prescribed.
