Blood in urine :
Blood in urine is also known as hematuria .Depending upon the amount of blood in the urine the colour of the urine may vary like red , pink, or brownish in colour.Common causes for blood in urine are : bladder or kidney stones, urinary tract infections , trauma , physical injury to the bladder ,cancer of the kidney , and infections. Blood in the urine can be the first sign and symptom of bladder cancer which has to be ruled out. Some other factors include excessive exercise , viral infection , dehydration etc. Pigments of certain foods like berries can also mimic as blood in urine. Diagnosis is made by physical examination , urine analysis , cystoscopy, CT and MRI.Antibiotics and i.v fluids are the choice of treatment if it is a viral haematuria , however the underlying cause needs to be evaluated and treated.
