Aortic Valve Stenosis :
It is the most common valvular heart disease. The lower left heart chamber has the body's main artery called the Aorta, which is narrowed and unable to open fully, resulting in a blockage of blood flow known as Aortic valve stenosis. Until blood flow is restricted, it causes symptoms like chest pain, Rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, loss of consciousness, and swollen legs and feet. This is more common at the age of 60, which is usually due to calcium deposits in the valve. In some cases, aortic stenosis is also seen due to rheumatic fever, which is due to untreated strep throat. Diabetes and old age are common risk factors. Heart failure, blood clots, and stroke can lead to complications. Aortic stenosis can be diagnosed by ECG and chest x-ray. Treatments like valve repair or valve replacements are needed in severe cases, as surgery is the only option. Otherwise, healthy lifestyle changes, regular exercise, and medications to treat low blood pressure.
