Peripheral arterial disease is a common condition in which there is a narrowing of arteries, leading to decreased blood flow to the legs and arms. The common cause of this the peripheral arterial disease is atherosclerosis. The symptoms of condition can be pain in the legs while walking, cramping of muscles in the legs, especially in the calf region, pain in the arms, numbness, weakness in legs, cold legs and feet, and weak pulse observed in the feet or legs. The treatment options include medications to manage symptoms, angioplasty with stent placement, thrombolytic therapy and bypass surgery.
