Laparoscopic Sterilization :
Laparoscopic sterilization is the most common type of permanent birth control for women. It is a surgery where fallopian tubes are blocked or sealed closed so eggs would not move to the uterus for fertilizing, making it a fool-proof method. This surgery is one of the options women select when they no longer wish to have children. General or local anesthesia is used to carry out the surgery. Surgeons make a very small incision next to the belly button so they can insert a thin tube called a laparoscope, which has a camera to look at reproduction organs. Fallopian clips, rings or cauterization (burning) close up the fallopian tubes. The whole procedure usually takes about 30 minutes, most women can go home on the same day. It is a quick recovery with only minimal pain or discomfort for few days. Doctors advise to avoid heavy activity for about a week. It is a highly effective procedure, and it does not affect hormone levels, menstrual cycles or sexual health. Consultations with a doctor can help figure out if procedure is right for the patient's needs and health.
