Neurologist :
A neurologist is a physician who is trained to diagnose and treat the disorders of the brain and the nervous system. The nervous system includes the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. To be certified as a neurologist, one has to qualify in MBBS and pursue an MD or DNB in Neurology. The common neurologic disorders managed by a neurologist are Alzheimer's disease, dementia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, brain injury, spinal cord injury, vascular malformations, cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, cerebral palsy and plasticity, concussion, encephalitis, epilepsy, facial pain syndromes, headache or migraine, hydrocephalus, meningitis, myasthenia gravis, pain in neck or spine, Parkinson's disease, peripheral neuropathy, sleep disorders, stroke, tremor, dystonia and tumors of brain, spine, and nerves. One should visit a neurologist when there are complaints like memory disturbances, loss of consciousness, seizures, taste or smell disturbances, vision problems, numbness and tingling sensations, facial asymmetries, vertigo, burning or electrical shock like pain in any part of the body and imbalance in gait.
