D and C :
D and C is referred to as dilation and curettage meaning the cervix (lower part of the uterus) is dilated and scrapped with a surgical instrument called as curette to remove any abnormal tissue. D and C procedure is used for both diagnostic and investigation purpose. It is used to diagnose conditions such as unusual bleeding, uterine cancer, uterine polyps, investigate infertility, biopsy, endometrial intraepithelial hyperplasia, bleeding after menopause and it is indicated for medical conditions such as removal of any polyps, removal of tumors, scrapping out the remnants after miscarriage to prevent infection and treat excessive bleeding. D and C procedure is generally performed as an outpatient procedure, and the recovery process depends on the severity of the condition treated.
