Diabetes insipidus :
Diabetes insipidus is a rare condition caused by disturbance in levels or usage of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) in the body. It results in secretion of more clear or pale urine frequently, particularly during the nighttime. Diabetes insipidus is of four types namely central, nephrogenic, dyspogenic, and gestational diabetes insipidus. ADH is secreted by the hypothalamus gland and it is stored in the pituitary gland so any damage, injury or tumorous conditions to these glands can cause variations in the production of antidiuretic hormone. Improper use of ADH by kidneys can also cause diabetes insipidus. It is usually characterized by excess urine production, excess thirst even after drinking adequate water, have preference for cold water. Desmopressin is the drug of choice for treating this condition. If left untreated, the patient with diabetes insipidus may develop syncope, issues with concentration, dry mouth and lips, nausea, and fatigue.
