What is obesity?
A high BMI is an indication for obesity. Obesity is a health condition where the excess accumulated fat in the body is beyond the normal usage quantity and poses potential health problems. Obesity acts as a sure shot gateway to several physical and mental problems like cardiac diseases like coronary heart disease, angina and myocardial infarction or congestive heart failure and high blood pressure. It can also lead to stomach problems like gastroesophageal reflux disease and fatty liver disease. It can mess with the endocrine health of an individual with diabetes mellitus. There is also evidence to show that it can cause obstructive sleep apnea and obesity hypoventilation syndrome. Obesity causes early stroke and migraines. The main reason for obesity is the over consumption of high energy foods containing excess fats and sugars. This results in excess caloric intake without any expenditure in the form of exercise.
