Premenstrual syndrome:
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) or premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) generally occurs one to two weeks before menstruation begins. This syndrome has a wide variety of signs and symptoms mostly reported with mood swings and tenderness in breasts. The food cravings and irritability are increased during this. Tension, anxiety and depression is experienced by women. There can be appetite changes and can be difficult to fall asleep. Joint or muscle pain is generalized with mild headache and fatigue. There is excess fluid retention by the body leading to weight gain and abdominal bloating. The skin experiences changes and acne flare-ups are present. The emotional stress can sometimes be severe enough to affect everyday activities. With the start of the menstrual period these symptoms go away. Hormones change with the cycle affecting the chemicals in the brain which could be the trigger for PMS symptoms.
