Vaginismus :
Vaginismus can be referred to as the involuntary contraction of muscles that surround the vagina. The vaginismus can be occurred due to vaginal tears during child births, anxiety disorders, fear of sex, past sexual abuse, any surgical treatment happened in the past. There are other issues that can be the same as vaginismus, such as vulvar vestibulitis and vaginal atrophy. The symptoms that can be experienced when there is vaginismus will be pain and discomfort while having sexual intercourse, and a hard time having a pelvic examination due to pain and muscle spasm. The treatment for vaginismus can be done by reducing the reflex of the muscles when they are contracted. Management of vaginismus can be done with pelvic floor physical therapy, topical application of lidocaine, sex therapy, vaginal dilator therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). The complications that can be observed in the case of vaginismus can include not being able to conceive pregnancy, affecting relationships with partners, and affecting mental health.
