Uveitis :
Uveitis is an eye problem that results in inflammation of the middle part of the uvea. Uvea is the middle part of eye and comprises the iris, choroid and ciliary body. The common symptoms of uveitis include irritation to eye, eye pain, red eye, swollen conjunctiva, blurred vision, light sensitivity or photophobia, accumulation of white liquid at the bottom of the front of the eye or in a ring around the iris, pupil shape changes, gaps in the field of vision of affected eye and increase in floaters that are easier to notice. The factors responsible for causing uveitis include infections due to bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites, eye injuries, certain medications, systemic diseases like Behcet's disease, inflammatory bowel disease, sarcoidosis, tubulo- interstitial nephritis and lupus. The management of uveitis involves taking over the counter medications to deal with the underlying cause and to control pain and inflammation. If left untreated, the complications of uveitis that may occur include detached retina, cataracts, glaucoma, high intraocular pressure, cystoid macular edema and optic nerve swelling.
