Undescended testis :
When a male child develops inside the mother's womb, the testis develop within the abdomen. As the child matures in the womb, the testis naturally descend from the abdomen to underneath the penis. In some cases, the testis descends from the abdomen some weeks after birth. However, if a child's testicles do not descend as expected, then it is said that they have an undescended testis.
A paediatrician can diagnose an undescended testis during the child's first check up after birth. Initially, the only symptom of the condition is a visual lack of testis in the scrotum. However, the condition is monitored and requires treatment to prevent hormonal problems as the child grows. Undescended testis are treated by surgically moving the testis into the scrotum.
