Ulcerative Colitis :
Ulcerative colitis can be described as the inflammation of the colon, which is observed with ulcers. Ulcerative colitis can be a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). There are many types of ulcerative colitis, such as left sided colitis, pancolitis, ulcerative proctitis, inflammation of rectum and sigmoid colon. The symptoms that can be observed in case of ulcerative colitis includes increased bowel movements, diarrhoea, tenesmus (feeling to pass stools, but cannot pass), mild abdominal tenderness, urgent bowel movements. In later stages of ulcerative colitis, the symptoms are blood in stools, pus in stools, frequent bowel movements, fatigue, severe abdominal pain, weight loss, fever, nausea. The ulcerative colitis can be diagnosed based on the investigation tests such as stool tests, blood tests, CT scan, barium enema, a specialised X-ray, MRI scan, colonoscopy, endoscopic test such as sigmoidoscopy, biopsy. Ulcerative colitis can be treated with medications and surgical treatment.
