A stomach ulcer can be referred to as a sore in the stomach lining, and it can also be called a gastric ulcer. The stomach ulcer or gastric ulcer can occur due to H.pylori infection, bacterial infections, usage of NSAIDs, viral infections, fungal infections, and severe stress. The symptoms that can be seen in case of a stomach ulcer can be indigestion of food, acid reflux, heartburn, gastric pain, nausea and vomiting, stomach bloating, and belching. In some instances, there are silent ulcers that do not cause any symptoms but can develop into complications such as perforation or bleeding. The diagnosis of a stomach ulcer can be done through an upper gastrointestinal tract X-ray series or endoscopy. The treatment for stomach ulcers will be based on the cause of the ulcers. It can be treated with medications and in case of complicated ulcers, surgery will be indicated such as cutting the nerve that is triggering the acid in the stomach, called vagotomy, or removal of scar tissue.
