Stomach Cancer :

Stomach Cancer or gastric cancer typically grows from the inner lining of the stomach. Generally incidence of gastric cancer increases with age and males are more prone to get gastric cancer than women. But often gastric cancer is diagnosed in late stages. Risk factors include excessive alcohol consumption, tobacco smoking, fried and smoked food, processed meat, pickled vegetables, chronic aspirin usage and untreated GERD. Infections such as H. Pylori, Epstein Barr virus and AIDS are closely associated to increase the chances of getting gastric cancer.

Sign and symptoms of stomach cancer are typically non specific and patients remain asymptomatic for long time. Few common symptoms are loss of appetite, burning sensation in the stomach, difficulty in swallowing, pain in stomach, nausea, weight loss, vomiting up of blood, dark coloured stools, indigestion, bloating, feeling full after few spoons, diarrhoea or constipation. Treatment include surgical removal of effected part, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and targeted therapy.
