Snoring :
Snoring can be described as the grumbling sound that is observed in a person while they are sleeping. Snoring occurs due to the obstruction of the airway. Snoring can be common in few individuals, but louder snoring refers to a condition called sleep apnea. The snoring can be caused due to the blockage of airway by the adenoids, soft palate, tonsils, tongue which leads to vibration by rubbing against each other when the air moves through them. The symptoms that can be experienced when there is snoring can be sounds such as whistling, grumbling, snorting, rumbling, quiet vibrations. There are other symptoms of snoring such as waking up during sleep because of dryness in the throat, headaches, toss and turn during the sleep, difficult to focus, irritability, fatigue during the daytime. Snoring can be managed by diagnosing the underlying cause through physical examination, and sleep study will be advised if they suspects of sleep apnea. The management of snoring can be based on making lifestyle changes, medications, nasal strips, and oral appliances. Surgical treatments involved in case of snoring are ablation therapy, tonsillectomy, laser assisted uvulopalatoplasty, septoplasty.
