Robotic Prostatectomy

Prostectomy is the surgical removal of all or part of the prostate gland. This procedure is performed in benign conditions causing urinary retention, as well as for prostate and pelvis cancers.There are many ways to perform prostectomy i.e a prostectomy can be done employing a traditional(open), laparoscopic or robotic assisted techniques. A robotic prostectomy is a minimally invasive technique performed by a proficient and experienced medical expert using advanced surgical technology.

During a Robotic Prostatectomy the prostate is usually removed through a keyhole incision through a tiny wristed instruments mostly with the surgeon sitting at the computer console. This procedure employs 3 dimensional endoscope and image processing equipment in order to experience enhanced view of the vital structure ensuring the optimal preservation. Robotic prostectomy has various advantages over traditional open surgery including precision,less blood loss,minimal hospital stay, faster recovery, and less pain. Despite being a less invasive procedure robotic prostectomy is associated with certain potential complications such as bleeding, infection, adjacent tissue or organ damage, erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence.
