PUO :
PUO can be called pyrexia of unknown origin. PUO is referred to as a rise in body temperature above the normal body temperature of 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. It can be seen along with other sicknesses. The PUO can be caused by common diseases like gall bladder disease, HIV infection, tuberculosis, endocarditis, herpes infections, urinary tract infections, fungal infections, malaria, toxoplasmosis, cancerous conditions, and drug fever. The diagnosis of PUO can be made with the symptoms, family history of illnesses, drug history, immunization status, and occupational history. The diagnosis of PUO can be based on the blood tests, urine tests, and other diagnostic tests based on the underlying diseases. The treatment advised for pyrexia will depend on the diagnosis of the disease that is causing it. Neutropenic and empiric treatment will be advised in pyrexia of unknown origin (PUO).
