Polyhydramnios
Polyhydramnios is a condition encountered during pregnancy in which there is an excess amount of amniotic fluid in the uterus, especially in the second half of pregnancy. Although amniotic fluid is essential to protect the baby, excessive amniotic fluid can cause symptoms such as breathing difficulties, pain in the abdomen, abnormal positioning of the baby inside the uterus, and swelling of the legs and feet. In most cases polyhydramnios is caused by defects or problems present in the developing baby or due to diabetes of the mother, or blood incompatibility between the mother and child. If polyhydramnios is not treated it can lead to complications such as premature birth, early breaking of water, stillbirth, and heavy bleeding after delivery.
