Oily Hair :
Oily hair is due to increased production of sebum/oil from sebaceous glands present around the hair follicles in the scalp. Oil is not produced from the hair itself. While production of oil/sebum is important to protect skin and hair from infections and provide moisture to hair, in excess amounts it may cause scalp itchiness, irritability and greasy/heavy scalp. The condition is called as seborrheic dermatitis, in which dandruff/fungal infection is formed to feed on the excess oil and builds up on the scalp. Some of the conditions where oil is overly secreted are during hormonal changes like in puberty, genetics, stress and humid surroundings. Dermatologist or Trichologist is the doctor to examine your scalp condition and prescribe medicated shampoos like ketaconazole and follow scalp and hair care routine with conditioners.
