Nystagmus :
Nystagmus can be referred to as a condition that affects the eye, causing rapid and uncontrolled movements. There are various types of nystagmus, which include acquired nystagmus and congenital nystagmus. Nystagmus can be associated with some health conditions like brain tumors, head injury, stroke, toxicity, and any inflammatory diseases. The major symptom of nystagmus can be uncontrolled and rapid movements of the eyes. The other symptoms seen with nystagmus will be sensitivity to light, blurred vision, balance problems, vertigo, dizziness, and a feeling of moving surroundings. The causes and risk factors of nystagmus will be optic nerve disorders, developmental problems of the eye and brain, stroke, albinism, brain tumor, astigmatism, inner ear problems, consumption of alcohol, certain medications, and eye problems. The diagnosis of nystagmus can be made with regular eye examination, and a neurologist will check the condition of the brain. The treatment done for nystagmus can be based on the cause, with medications, eye vision correction surgery, eyeglasses or contact lenses, or eye muscle surgery.
