Various causes, such as nerve compression, injuries, muscle strains, worn joints, and disease conditions like cancer, meningitis, and rheumatoid arthritis, can cause neck pain. Neck pain can occur due to sitting in the wrong posture. The diagnosis of neck pain can be made with diagnostic tests such as CT scan, X-rays, MRI scan, electromyography (EMG), and blood tests to identify any infections. The treatment of neck pain can be made with medications, physiotherapy, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), and a soft neck collar. Also, there are steroid injections and surgical treatment for spinal cord compression. Lifestyle modifications that can help relieve neck pain include applying a cold pack, rolling the neck and shoulders, taking a warm shower, performing neck-bending and rotation exercises, and stretching.
