Myomectomy
Myomectomy is a surgery that is done to remove abnormal uterine muscle growths known as uterine fibroids, which are noncancerous. In a myomectomy procedure only the uterine fibroid is removed and the rest of the uterus is left untouched or reconstructed if necessary. A myomectomy procedure is indicated when uterine fibroids are causing heavy menstrual bleeding and other problems, but the woman wishes to bear children in the future. A myomectomy may be done as an open surgery in which the abdomen is cut open, or as a keyhole surgery which is minimally invasive. A myomectomy procedure not only helps to relieve the symptoms of uterine fibroids but also helps to improve fertility.
