Mouth Cancer :
Oral cancer is the most common cancer of the head and neck, usually affecting people of age 60 or older. It can affect the lips, tongue, mouth and floor. Risk factors include smoking cigarettes, cigars and pipes, using smokeless tobacco products like chewing tobacco, dip, snuff and water pipes, drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, spending a lot of time in sun, human papillomavirus and a family history of oral cancer. Symptoms may include leukoplakia, erythroplakia, and erythroleukoplakia. Signs and symptoms of oral cancer include sores on the lip that bleeds easily, rough or crusty areas on the lips, gums and inside the mouth, numbness, tenderness, pain in the face and neck, difficulty in chewing, speaking, swallowing and moving the jaw and tongue, chronic bad breath, ear pain and unintentional weight loss. Diagnosis can be made by physical examination, incisional biopsy, brush biopsy, direct pharyngoscopy and laryngoscopy, indirect laryngoscopy and pharyngoscopy.
