Lung transplant :
Lung transplant is a major surgical procedure to replace one or both the lungs in patients who have damaged or diseased lungs with a healthy donor lung. It is can be a Single-Lung transplant , Double-Lung transplant or a Heart-Lung transplant where both heart and lungs are replaced. Lung transplant is done in all ages where the lung is unable to perform its normal functioning and the life expectancy is reduced to less than 12-24 months without the lung transplant. It is done in conditions like cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, COPD(chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), pulmonary hypertension, ILD, and conditions with severe lung damage. Patient have to be monitored after the lung transplant for infection, organ rejection and he/she is advised to pulmonary rehabilitation for improved breathing, taking immunosuppresents regularly and other supportive care necessary.
