Lazy Eye
Lazy eye also known as amblyopia in medical terms is a condition in which there is poor vision in one eye due to abnormal development of vision and poor coordination between the visual area of the brain and the eyes in early life. A lazy eye is seen to develop between birth and 8 years of life and presents with symptoms that include wandering of one eye outwards or inwards, lack of coordination between the 2 eyes, low perception of depth, tilting of the head to see better, presence of squint or using only one eye to see better. A lazy eye can develop due to problems such as squint, childhood cataracts, high refractive error, and power difference between 2 eyes. Some risk factors for lazy eye include premature birth, low birth weight, family history, and congenital birth defects. If lazy eye is left untreated it can cause permanent blindness.
